The Nissan NP300 Navara: CAGI’s Truck of the Year-Philippines

When Nissan’s NP300 Navara was launched in February of this year, Nissan Philippines, Incorporated (NPI) President Antonio “Toti” Zara confidently declared, “Let the truck wars begin!

Today, nine months after that dare was made, it sure looks like Mr. Zara had every reason to declare war on other truck manufacturers with such confidence. The Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI), the Philippines’ premier award-giving body in the automotive industry, has declared the NP300 Navara as the 2015 Truck of the Year Philippines during the Awards Night held on November 13th of this year in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.

The Navara first fought it out in the Best 4×2 Pickup of the Year category, where it bested 12 other trucks, including the Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Strada, Tata Xenon, and different variants of the Chevrolet Colorado. After being named the best in its category, the NP300 Navara went head-to-head with Ford’s Ranger Wildtrak 3.2L, which was adjudged the Best 4×4 Pickup of the Year. Nissan was proud to come up on top.

Make no mistake about it, this was no mean feat because the awards were given out based not on things like advertising budget, popularity, or sales figures, but on real merits like build quality, driving experience, ride comfort, style, and vehicle performance. CAGI President Robby Consunji himself said, “CAGI has completed the most thorough and critical consumer-oriented vehicle review process in the country. We tested 78 cars and trucks from the 2015 model year, involved roughly 1,500 test drives over 4 days.” as he thanked the participating car manufacturers for allowing them to scrutinize and test their vehicles.

So, what exactly was it that drove the CAGI team to name the NP300 Navara the country’s Truck of the Year? What features does this automobile have that set it apart not only from the other trucks in its category, but from all other 2015 model trucks? Let’s take a closer look at the Navara to find out.

At first glance, it’s hard not to be impressed with the new NP300. Unlike its predecessors and many other trucks in its category, it doesn’t have a boxy look. Quality details such as the distinguished front end, the chrome and matte gray grill, LED projector headlamps, the wide arches and creases, the car-style tail lamps, the unique tailgate, and the V-motion detail around its logo all add up to the appeal of its design.

But it’s not just the looks that have improved in the all-new NP300 Navara. When Nissan says “all-new,” it certainly looks like they mean it because the pickup has grown practically in all areas. It is longer, wider, and taller than the previous version. Even the cabin looks and feels much improved from Nissan’s previous pickups. The fabric upholstery of the seats blend in perfectly with the nearly all-black interior.

The NP300 Navara also has excellent ergonomics, with the front seats featuring the Zero-G design created in collaboration with NASA, which offers maximum comfort and minimum fatigue—perfect for long drives. The cabin also has ample rear leg room and has extremely plush seats, you probably won’t believe you’re in a pickup truck! It feels more like you’re inside a top-spec executive sedan. And it’s not just the interior that offers ample space; the truck bed is also very spacious, allowing you to transport just about all kinds of cargo.

What hasn’t changed from the previous generation of the Navara is the 2.5L CRDI engine, but that’s not so bad, considering the model also has 163 PS and 403 Nm of torque. Power features such as the power windows, locks, and mirrors have also been retained and the audio system improved, being amazingly clear and powerful for a mid-range truck. Of course, just like all units in Nissan’s new generation of vehicles, the all-new Navara boasts an air conditioning system that’ll keep passengers comfortably cool, even during the scorching Philippine summer months.

All in all, the all-new Nissan NP300 Navara handles extremely well, offers maximum comfort, and has excellent maneuverability and fuel economy. And when you consider that it sells for only PHP1,108,000.00, you’ll understand just how impressive it is by itself and as compared to other vehicles in its class. It comes as no wonder, then, that the CAGI team found this pickup to be in a league of its own and named it the best of its kind. So if you’re on the market for a new pickup truck, it would definitely be a good idea to consider the Navara.

Nissan Juke – Was It Worth the Wait?

A few years ago, rumors circulated about the Nissan Juke being launched in the Philippines very soon. This month, in celebration of the second anniversary of Nissan Philippines Inc. (NPI), those rumors were not only laid to rest, but joyously confirmed to be true. NPI has indeed brought the compact crossover SUV to the country. It was their way of kicking off their latest campaign, “Rediscover Excitement, Rediscover Nissan.”

The campaign is aimed at reliving the glory days of Nissan, and NPI felt that the launch of the Juke, with its unique character and sporty look, is the perfect way to get the campaign started. But does it live up to the high expectations? Is it really the best car model to start a campaign with? Well, the only way to find out is to take a closer look at the car in question. Let’s go!

A Closer Look at The Juke

If car specs don’t really make that much sense to you, allow us to help you get to know this stylish new entry of Nissan Philippines.

The Exterior

Nissan Juke – Was It Worth the Wait?

At first glance, you’ll immediately notice that the Juke looks absolutely nothing like the other Nissan cars currently being offered in the Philippine market. It is a sport crossover with a very aggressive front and rear design, and standing at a 2520mm wheelbase. It measures 4135mm x 1765mm x 1580mm (LxWxH). The Juke’s front has Halogen Projector w/ LED Clearance Lamps headlights and huge circular fog lamps. It also has a colored front bumper that features Nissan’s signature V-motion chrome grille. The side features LED side turners with auto-folding, power-adjustable side turn lamps. The car’s rear has LED signature lamps and an intermittent wiper.

The Interior

Nissan Juke – Was It Worth the Wait?

The Juke has fabric-covered body-hugging seats and a manually adjustable driver’s seat that has an active-restraint headrest. It also features an automatically illuminated glove box and a spacious center console. The back of the interior has an audio head unit and computer display meter. The sporty look of the car is also evident in the silver center trim and rounded metal door handles.

Comfort and Convenience

Nissan Juke – Was It Worth the Wait?

The Juke’s intelligent display system known as I-CON offers driving convenience by allowing you to customize drive and climate modes. This means you can adjust the atmosphere inside the vehicle to perfectly suit your preferences. The vehicle also has a push start system that adds even more to the convenience it offers.

Safety Features

Nissan Juke – Was It Worth the Wait?

Other than the dual front air bags and anti-lock braking system mentioned earlier, the Juke also ensures your safety with its brake assist and brake force distribution. Furthermore, it is armed with an anti-theft system that has a built-in immobilizer! If you have kids, then you’ll be glad to know Tether and ISO-FIX ensures child protection in the vehicle.

The Verdict

Considering all of the above features, functions, and specifications, it really does seem like the Juke is worth the wait. And when you consider further that it is set to sell at less than a million pesos (PHP980,000 to be exact), one can easily forgive Nissan Philippines for taking so long to bring this funky crossover to our shores, right?

Remember, though that this is a small vehicle, categorized as a subcompact crossover. If you’re looking for a family car and you have a large family, this may (unfortunately) not be the vehicle for you. But if you only have a family of four, or if you’re single and are looking for just this type of car, then the Juke is certainly worth checking out; at least go for a test drive in it!

The closest competitors we can find for Nissan’s latest addition to the Philippine market are the Ford EcoSport and the soon-to-be-launched Mazda CX-3. It does have the advantage of being a bit bigger and more powerful than the Ford. As to how it compares with the upcoming Mazda, we’ll just have to wait and see.

When Nissan Philippines finally starts selling the Juke in January of 2016, you can take your pick from 4 fun colors: Solar Yellow, Red Alert, Pearl White, and Obsidian Black. It certainly took its time coming to the Philippines, but when we saw what the Juke had to offer, we were once again reminded that patience is indeed a virtue.

The Nissan Sylphy Transformation Promo: Celebrating Change

There are brands almost everyone immediately recognizes and Nissan is one of those. If you take the time to ask random individuals you meet on the street, all of them will probably tell you that they or a member of their family either owns a Nissan at present or has owned one in the past. There is definitely no denying the fact that this brand has become a world leader in the automobile industry over the years and they take pride in having held on to their leadership status for years.

Today, Nissan continues to be on a roll, with a continually increasing market share as well as improved customer satisfaction and dealer profitability. This isn’t to say, though, that the company can rest on its laurels. Considering how competitive the world in general has become, they can expect to still have some pretty tough battles to fight. The All-new Nissan Urvan NV350: Comfort at its Finest

With the unveiling of the new NV350 Urvan, Nissan’s commitment to continually modernize their vehicle offering becomes apparent. This fifth-generation van is the latest in a line of cargo haulers that dates all the way back to 1973. With this new model, Nissan aims to serve the needs and meet the stringent demands of shuttle operators, family users, and entrepreneurs. This is why they chose to give the Urvan a total overhaul on both its exterior and interior design. So, how does the NV350 measure up? Let’s find out.

The Exterior

One of the first things you’re bound to notice when you see the Nissan Urvan NV350 is that its halogen lights look more modern. The model also has a bigger bumper and a revamped grill. The side of the vehicle has new character lines, and the exterior mirrors as well as the side windows have been redesigned. The sharper design continues with the vehicle’s rear, which now features distinctive taillights, a chrome emblem, and a sleek bumper. The new Urvan also has a third brake light and 15-inch wheels. Cool, huh?

According to TopGear, the new Urvan’s design is indeed “…an improvement over its predecessor’s aging styling. It has clean lines and a shortened overhang to give it a modern look. The angled strut front grille and the sharply angled halogen headlights contribute to the Urvan’s leaner profile.”

The Interior

The NV350 boasts a 2.5-liter engine, which is similar to one in the NP300 Navara and the most powerful in its class. This means that even when you’re travelling to places like Baguio and Bukidnon with a full load (passengers and cargo), you’ll still enjoy a smooth travel. And you’ll no longer have to turn the air conditioning unit off when you go over mountain passes! The vehicle also has a new shift indicator on its dashboard, letting you know when you need to shift so as not to waste fuel and reduce the stress on the engine.

Comfort is also one of the best things the new NV350 Urvan has to offer. The driver gets to enjoy a sliding and tilting seat as well as tilt-adjustable steering; never has it been this easy to be behind the wheel of a van! Plus, a total of 12 air conditioning vents are evenly distributed throughout the vehicle’s roof line, which means you no longer have to worry about the heat, even when you’re on a long road trip in the middle of summer. The redesigned interior also offers more legroom and elbow room for ultimate comfort.

It certainly looks like the new Nissan NV350 delivers on its promise of serving the needs of shuttle operators, family users (and barkadas), and small businesses that may rely on vans for operations. But perhaps the customer group that gets the best news is the shuttle operators, because Nissan offers a free three-year warranty to any buyer who registers the van as a PUV.
